"All Consuming" by J A Corbin, Issue 1, Vol 1, July 2001.
The Oxford Dictionary defines consume and consumer as:
consume: verb 1. to use up, much time is consumed in waiting.
2. eat or drink up.
3. destroy completely; overwhelm, fire consumed the building.
consumer: noun. a person who buys goods or uses goods or services.
From the moment you are born, until the time you die, the one thing you have in common with every person on earth is that you are a consumer. If we wanted to get philosophical we could discuss topics such as consuming the air we breathe, but lets keep this to things me must purchase. That is, food, clothing, and sundries required to maintain life.
Every day we are faced with decisions that either directly or indirectly (depending on your point of view) require payment. In today's economy we are all looking to save a buck or two. Subsequent columns will address issues as discussing specific products, store club cards, vendor loyalty, little ideas to save time and money. We will also look at how to get a refund from a manufacturer and what I call "grocery store madness". If there is a topic you would like to discuss please email me you ideas.
