Movie Review: By Robin Leonard
"Harry Potter & The Sorcerer's Stone"
Now available on DVD. Warner Home Video.
Around Christmas time, I impulsively said to my husband one night, "Let's go see the late showing of Harry Potter." It was a Sunday night, so I figured the theatre would not be too crowded, and the movie just seemed to be one that would be best enjoyed on the big screen, so off we went to Silver City...
I went with no real expectations one way or the other, but let me tell you, what a fantastically thrilling movie!
The special effects were incredible, the characters were infinitely likable, and with an all-star cast (Richard Harris, John Cleese, Robbie Coltrane) and some brilliant newcomers,(Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson) I left that theatre completely blown away by the movie and suffering from Harry Potter Mania!
I am certain we will be picking this one up for our DVD collection.
Don't be mislead by the premise of sorcery in the title. There's nothing wicked or evil about the subject matter. Although it does have some "magic" in the story, the real message in the film is that if you are pure of heart, you will know to do the right things in life, no matter what the circumstances may be.
