"The Poetry Corner", Issue 1, Vol 1, July 2001.
As we are planning to launch this web site on July 1st, 2001, which, coincidentally, would have been the late Princess Diana's 40th birthday, I felt it was fitting to offer my very personal tribute poem to her as the first item in the Poetry Corner column.
I wrote this poem about 3 days after she died. It came from my own sense of grief, sorrow and anger at the senseless tragedy that ended her young life.
My best friend Leslie & I had the pleasure of meeting Diana in 1986. We were able to shake her hand and exchange a few words with her. In 1998, we were able to meet Princes Charles, William And Harry when they came to our city on a public visit. We shook all of their hands as well, and I was able to give Harry a couple of the pictures of his mother that I had taken in 1986. He looked me straight in the eye and said "Thank you very much!" They are such brave young men!
Here is my tribute to their mother, whom I admired very much and am honored to have met.
